About Cavapoos

We breed lovely F1 Cavapoos using the same Dads as our Cockapoos. You benefit from the lovely outstanding nature, proven quality breeding and our Cavalier King Charles Mums. It is a well-known fact that the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has many health issues, and we believe in hybrid vigour, which means by cross-breeding, you may reduce the common health ailments seen in the CKS.

Cavapoo v Cockapoo

This is a very common question, so we hope this article is helpful for those that are undecided.

We do not breed Cockapoos or Cavapoos from the toy poodle, joint compatibility is important, so we would not use a toy poodle with any of our English Show Cockers or CKS. Our Cockapoos are the mid-size Cockapoo, so this is only a mid-size dog, typical to cocker spaniel in size. Our Cavapoos are a little bit smaller maybe 1” or 2”, so nothing really in it in terms of size.

Many people ask us, which are the most laid back and calm, the answer is our Cockapoos are, but there is not much difference, in terms of training, both are quick learners, both want to please and both are companion breeds and both need the same amount of exercise.

Another common question is which of the two suffer less with separation anxiety, again they are the same. They are both companion breeds and need to be taught how to be by themselves from day one, and importantly a companion breed cannot be left for longer than 4 hours on their own.

The Cavapoo.

  • With the correct coat, it is very suitable for families with allergies. Low shedding.

  • Can be more suitable for those who live in an apartment or a flat.

  • Very easy to train like the Cockapoo.

  • Companion breed - like the Cockapoo.

  • Very suited to families with children if bred from nice natured parents.

  • Only slightly smaller than the Cockapoo’s that we breed.

  • A Cavapoo has larger eyes than the Cockapoo, this comes from the Cavalier King Charles look.

  • Health Testing is really important.

  • Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known for heart disorders, so as long as the Mum has her heart checked regularly then this will ensure no breeding is done from a Mum with any heart issues, plus the Poodle is health tested. CKC spaniels do have other health ailments such as Syringomyelia (SM). We have never had a case of this either in our own CKS or in any Cavapoo we have bred.

  • Remember the Cavapoo is a crossbreed so bringing in the Poodle into the mix, can/may remove the health issues commonly seen in the pure breed Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cross-breeds are known to enjoy hybrid vigour and the Cavapoo has been around since the 1950s.

  • As with all breeding, nothing can give you a 100% guarantee, but we hope by cross-breeding we shall over time prove that Hybrid Vigour is extremely helpful in reducing the common health ailments commonly seen in the CKS.

  • We health test both parents, with the recommended kennel club health testing. Our vet also checks the hearts of our CKS Mums.
